That You May Believe Series: Session 31 – A Warning About Beliefs
What you believe about Jesus may be the most important belief you will ever hold. In John 8:48-59, the Pharisees were confident they understood God, yet their wrong assumptions led them to accuse Jesus of being demon-possessed and ultimately attempt to kill Him. Their example warns us that confidence does not guarantee correctness. We can believe something sincerely, appeal to authorities who seem to support us, and even make life-changing decisions while still being wrong. Jesus confronted their assumptions with an extraordinary declaration: “Before Abraham was, I am,” identifying Himself with the eternal God revealed in Scripture. This passage challenges us to examine our beliefs, search the Scriptures, and honestly consider the evidence about Jesus. Who is Jesus? Is He really God? The answers have eternal consequences. Don't allow assumptions, traditions, or misplaced confidence to keep you from discovering the truth about Jesus Christ.
