We should not let our past prevent us from being an effective mentor for three reasons:

1. Our failures do not mean we do not get another opportunity. (1 Samuel 2:22-26)

2. Our failures serve as lessons for current opportunities. (1 Samuel 2:26, 3:7-10)

3. Our mentoring allows others to be successful where we have failed. (1 Samuel 3:15-18, 1 Samuel 7:3, 1 Samuel 12:1-5)

Live It Out: Evaluate- How well are you listening to the voice of God in His Word? Make a commitment to read God’s Word daily to gain insight and direction from His Word.

Thank- Thank others who have shared God’s Word with you and helped you discern God’s direction for your life. In a note, email, or text, be specific how they helped you.

Speak up- When you see others going astray from Scripture and God’s will for their life, talk with this person. With gentleness and respect, encourage the individual to seek God, trust Him, and be obedient to Him.
